Surrey Premier Cup

Dulwich Hamlet Reserves clinched a place in the final of this competition with a narrow victory over Tooting and Mitcham at Sandy Lane thus ending their hosts' hopes of a third successive appearance in the final. Victory came courtesy of a cool finish by Mark Coyle 13 minutes from the end when he slipped the ball past keeper Chris Bouchez and covering defender Jason Williams could only help the ball into the net. Tooting had earlier taken a 26th minute lead, when Ben Proudfoot rose above everyone to head in a Rob O'Connor corner. Dulwich had swiftly responded when a fierce shot from Marcus Casey gave Bouchez no chance. There was a late scare in the final seconds as Williams nearly took the game into extra time drawing a stunning save from Dulwich keeper, Jason Curtis, but the Hamlet clung on to clinch a meeting with Sutton United Reserves to decide the fate of the Cup, on a date and at a venue yet to be decided.
However amid the celebrations there was a sombre note when Youth Team graduate, Jimmy Goldsmith was taken to hospital after a sickening collision with the pitch’s concrete perimeter wall. He was immediately rushed to St George’s Hospital with severe head injuries. Further information when it is available.
