BROMLEY 1 DULWICH HAMLET 0

Manuel Debut Goal Lifts Cloud For Bromley
BROMLEY ended an eleven game run without a win against their historic rivals with a 1-0 victory over Dulwich Hamlet at Hayes Lane. This was the 88 Isthmian League game between the two clubs. Bromley last beat Dulwich Hamlet in 1994 and after Saturday's dismal 3-0 defeat at Slough Town Manager Stuart McIntyre made changes to his side. Danny Harwood returned in goal, John Myatt came in after missing two games with work commitments, Billy Manuel added strength to midfield, making his debut after signing from Tonbridge Angels, and Kirk Watts returned to the side following his four game suspension.
Billy Manuel won Bromley an early free kick but Dulwich cleared John Myatt's free kick and in the third minute Hamlet were caught offside following Danny Husbands corner was cleared and Rob French's delivery caught his forwards offside. Bromley scored the winning goal early - in the 5th minute. Billy Manuel's pass found Dean Thomas and he won a free kick thanks to Tony Chin's foul. John Myatt's free kick produced a fine save from goalkeeper James Mercer but debut boy BILLY MANUEL followed up the shot to fire the ball home. This was Bromley's first goal in three games and eight minutes after the goal Dean Thomas' low drive was saved by Mercer after Michael Harney's cross. Two minutes later Mercer was busy again cutting out another Harney cross. Danny Harwood's 19th minute clearance helped the Ravens earn a corner. Lee Akers headed behind for a corner which was delivered to the far post by Harney and Mark Harris header under pressure was saved by Mercer. Dulwich got back into the game, and tried to catch Bromley on the break but the defence were solid. On 31 minutes former Bromley forward Charley Side was first to the ball but Harwood collected the ball following Danny Husbands free kick. With five minutes remaining another free kick nearly caught out Harwood as Husbands swung the ball wide of the target the Bromley number one decided to leave the ball alone, but luckily for him the ball was wide of the far post. The half time whistle sounded with a massive brawl infront of the stand following Eben Allen foul on Mark Harris. Players got involved when they shouldn't and this resulted in the sending off for Dulwich's Danny Ward and the bookings for Billy Manuel and Carl Bartley. The Referee decided to book them in the dressing rooms when things had calmed down.
Ten Man Dulwich given a boost at half time by Manager Martin Eede came out confident for the second half and took the game to Bromley. Nick Leach fired well over the bar, and after Harris was beaten Charley Side was denied by Danny Harwood in the first three minutes. Danny Moore tested Harwood in the 57th minute but Harwood saved the shot following another free kick. Soon afterwards Carl Bartley twice headed wide for Bromley. In the 67th minute Carl Bartley blasted over the bar after being set up by his striking partner Dean Thomas and from John Myatt's corner Mark Harris headed wide. Dulwich made a double substitution bringing on Warren Burton and Junior Kadi to try to drive on the visiting team. Carl Bartley got on the end of another Michael Harney cross but fired over the bar, and another Myatt free kick found the head of Mark Harris but his header fell to Thomas but couldn't get his shot on target. Dulwich tried to get through Bromley's solid defence in the final ten minutes but unlike Saturday's game at Slough Town, Bromley worked hard and deserved their one goal victory. Kwabena Amaning did a fine job in midfield when he replaced Gary Drewett in the final moments of the game, making several important tackles. On that showing surely Manager Stuart McIntyre should give him more chances in the team for the final five games. Dulwich went close with Eben Allen firing over and Junior Kadi firing wide in injury time. Billy Manuel fired wide for Bromley and when the Referee blew his whistle it ended a run off 11 games without a win against Dulwich Hamlet to the delight of the Hayes Lane faithful.
